Confession Bandpic 2014

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
First of all, I have to confess that I never heard of you before. I did the review for Life And Death (Review: here). It’s also very hard to find some information about Confession in the Internet. So maybe you can tell us something about the turbulent history of Confession, e. g. what happened in 2012, when you replaced all members of the band?

Confession:
Sometimes with bands things aint going the right way, We wearnt seeing eye to eye with how and why i started this band. So we went out different ways. Im still good fiends with some of the guys. But I would say most bands are turbulent in some way. Some of the biggest bands ever have gone through members. It happens hahahaha

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
The professional reviews and also the reaction of the fans for the album Life And Death was very good. But in the end, what is more important for you: professional reviews or reaction of the fans? After all, a good professional review may increase the sales, because more people might become curious, even if they didn’t hear anything of you before – like myself ;-).

Confession:
Reaction from fans, i dont care what a reviewer has to say, honestly they can either love it or rip an album to bits, But what is their back story? what bands have they been in, how many tours have they done? A reviewer is a person with an opinion, not always a musician with any idea.. The fans are what make a band live and breathe, they are the true support and their voice helps the band be heard by kore people.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
How do you do the song writing? I know, that you wrote all the lyrics for Life And Death, but generally speaking, do you have defined roles within the band, or does every member participate and gives input if he thinks it might fit?

Confession:
Me and Jake the drummer wrote the lyrics and music for the album. Russ the guitarist helped with some leads parts.. I help with song structure.. But jake the drummer writes all the riffs.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
As far as I understand, your lyrics mainly deal with your personal life or your points of view for sociocritical subjects, and you also post them on facebook. You often offend people with that. For example, you did a radio interview, because posters with Fuck Cancer were very embarrassing for many people. How do you deal with these sometimes quite negative reactions?

Confession:
They are my lyrics, they are written from real experience, i kinda don’t give a fuck what other people think, Its my real life that im putting on paper and to songs.. Who i offend is irrelevant, its getting it outta my head and into a song that is my focus, i cant keep everyone happy.. As long as im happy with what i put down, that’s all that really matters..

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
I don’t know why, but in 2010 facebook shut down your old page. Was this also for these statements concerning sociocritical subjects?

Confession:
Did it? i cant remember this happening? hahahahaa

Being a follower on facebook, I mainly read announcements for new concerts. It must be quite hard to be away from your wife and your child this often. I think the song March 23, which is one of my favourite songs from the album Life And Death, is about this. Aren’t you afraid to miss some important parts in the life of your child? Or do they accompany you on these tours?

Confession:
No matter what in life you miss parts of your childs life, you cant be there for everything when you have a job. I live in a state where mining is the biggest money earner and most my friends are away from their family far longer than i am with the band. People go to a 9-5 and only see their children a few hours of a day. The good thing is when im home from tour i spend weeks and months around my child and get to spend time. We cant be there every second of every day with the ones we love, but using the time we have when we have it, is a great asset.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
In addition to the band with recording and releasing the new album and touring, you are also very busy in your cancer foundation. You already said that your parents suffer from this terrible illness and that you are also very proud that they both performed in your video for the song Fuck Cancer. Did you also visit other persons, who suffer from cancer, as you offered on facebook? What kind of conversations did you experience? And will you also go on with these activities, for which I admire you the utmost?

Confession:
Yeh Ive visited people in the past and spend lots of time at shows talking to fans about their experiences with cancer and their family going through it. I met a girl a few nights ago with terminal cancer. Its horrible to hear but this is the reality with live. It sucks, it hurts and it makes me cry.. But we are delt the cards in life and we have to do our best to stay strong.. I always say prepare for the worst… Even if it makes you miserable and hope for the best.. Cause with cancer you never know the outcome.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:
That’s it for this time. For the next album I will surely have some more questions 😉 Is there anything you would like to say to the readers and fans?

Confession:
Check out the new cd and give it a listen, read the lyrics and maybe you can take something from it.. Thanks for the support!
