Hi Descending! Thank you for taking time to answer us a few questions about the project „Descending“! Would you tell us, why you’ve chosen exactly this name for your band?
Descending:
Hi and thank you for this interview! Well, when the band started we needed a name that would match with our music and „Descending“ was one of the first that was proposed by our guitarist Theo. We liked it, it matched, the rest is history! Theres is no big story behind it.
Time For Metal / Maddin:
Descending was formed in 2007 in Athens, Greece. Please tell us more about the reasons for you to form a band and why did you choose this very special type of music? Did anyone of you play in other bands before?
Descending:
The band was formed because there was a need inside of all of the members to make a new step. Before that all of us played in various bands but when we got together we knew that this was for real, something to focus on and put a lot of effort. The musical style came by itself, it’s what we like to play and we needn’t push it to form itself. It just happened very naturaly.
Time For Metal / Maddin:
After your debut album „Enter Annihilation“ (2008), „New Death Celebrity“ was released on October, 28th. Could you tell our readers something about the meaning of your songs?
Descending:
NDC is a concept album. It’s songs speak about a very important person, that’s why we used the term celebrity, who was born with a star and was meant to make a big impact in people’s lives. Every song is a state of his mind, body and soul, a point in what you might say is his „life map“, starting from the end after he had died, when his work has passed to eternity, and building the story way back at the moment of his birth.

If I’m correctly informed, „New Death Celebrity“ was recorded with Fredrik Nordstrom (Fredman Studios). Why did you choose him to work together with and are you satisfied with the result?
Descending:
We worked with Fredrik Nordstrom and Henrik Udd at Fredman Studios because these guys surely know how to get the best of you. They are incredible in their job and their work speaks for itself. We are fully satisfied with the result.
Time For Metal / Maddin:
The first impression, your listeners get from your new release, is the artwork, which is not the cutest one I’ve seen so far. What do you want to tell your listeners with this decadent piece of art?
Descending:
The album artwork is a work of Seth Siro Anton of Septic Flesh. He really did a great job. The cover is called “The Eunuch Priest” and it was chosen by Seth himself as one of his favorite works up to date. It fits perfectly with the concept and dark atmosphere of the album because it gives the taste of decadence that spreads in the life of NDC’s hero through his journey.
Time For Metal / Maddin:
Are there any live performances planned in Europe / Germany in the near future?
Descending:
It’s our main plan to tour Europe in support of our new album in the near future but at the time we don’t have anything confirmed.
Time For Metal / Maddin: Have there ever been thoughts about cancelling the project „Descending“ until now?
Descending:
No, there haven’t. Everyone in the band is focused 100% at what needs to be done to move Descending forward. It’s our main interest.

Speaking about the internet in todays society – What do you think about file sharing / illegal musicdownloads?
Descending:
Well today’s music industry is taking a big blow from internet and illegal downloads but we cannot deny the obvious which is that the internet also helps as a realy cheap and effective means to advertising. It has given the opportunity to a lot of artists to make their work known to a lot of people realy fast. What I say is that when you cannot avoid something bad try to at least use it in a way it also serves you.

What are your plans for the future?
Descending:
All we want is to tour as much as possible in support of our new album as I mentioned before. That’s our main plan for the future and then we could start writing our next album.
