Iron Lamb - Fool´s Gold

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Hello Iron Lamb,

Your are from Sweden, Stockholm. Besides that your are from Stockholm, it is also worth knowing that your latest record is your second record after The Original Sin from 2011. How did you guys meet and what influenced you music?

Iron Lamb:

Hi Rene!

We sure are. We knew each other since many years, having played together in other bands previously etc. Having mostly played more extreme music previously, this time the goal was to play classic rock/hard rock music, the stuff we grew up with and always held the highest. Being who we are, it ended up sounding a bit punky, and still pretty hard, he he. The new record is more in the vein of what we aimed for from the beginning.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

The Original Sin was well estimated not only in our editorial office. Would you have guessed that The Original Sin would hit like a bomb? Did the feedback of The Original Sin influence the production of Fool´s Gold`?

Iron Lamb:

Í´m not sure it hit like a bomb really, but I appreciate your words and that people around seemed to like the album. I can´t say that we got influenced by any feedback, it´s more that we´re moving towards the sound we wanted in the first place but didn´t quite know how to get. I´m still very proud of The Original Sin, but I do think that Fool´s Gold is how Iron Lamb intended to sound in the first place.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

A goat on your covers seems to be a recurrent theme, although this time a pretty crazy one with an unsheathed tongue and a crown on its head. Where is the connection to your music?

Iron Lamb:

It´s a lamb!! Ha ha.. Goats are all great but not what we do. They look neat, don´t they?

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

What can you say on a personal level about the ten songs on the record. Is it all just Rock´n Roll, Punk and Metal or is there more behind the music?

Iron Lamb:

One Way Track – A great album opener. A very no frills no bullshit straight forward rocker. One of my personal faves on the album. Ekeroth wrote most of this song.

Smile now, cry later – Another one of my faves. Perfect second song, and a bit softer than what many people are used to hear from us. In my opinion we had songs in this style on the first album as well, so it´s nothing new, and I think that´s a huge thing that sets us apart from many other bands who people sometimes throw us together with, that we have a very wide range of influences and all the songs don´t sound the same. I enjoy playing my guitar solos alot on this song. I also love how Bragges dirty vocals match so well with the softer mood of the song.

Feed the Fire – A pretty straight forward mid tempo rocker. Inge krångel!! This one is fun to play.

Backstabbers – One of the faster songs, d-beat all the way and a great song to play live. We also recorded a earlier version of this song a couple of years ago that was released as a 7″ last year. This one was the first song Bragge wrote lyrics for and recorded when he joined the band, and it was one that made it very clear he was perfect for the band. Also written by Ekeroth.

Leave Me Be – This one is a standout for sure. When we wrote and rehearsed the song, we had a more noisy kind of garage ballad kind of thing in mind. As it turned out, Bragge didn´t feel comfortable singing it, so my friend Paulo Staver from Primitive Art Records got us in touch with Rob Coffinshaker, whom I´m a big fan of since many years, and he immediately agreed to do guest vocals on it. It ended up as something completely different from what we originally intended, but I love it. Working with Rob couldn´t have gone smoother, a true professional.

Pink Mist – This one is also a bit of a standout. Pink Mist was the working title for the new album, but we later on decided on Fool´s Gold instead, for various reasons. This one almost have an 80´s heavy metal touch with the acoustic intro and timpani drum rolls, but the actual song is more classic rock.

Mockingbird – Another one of my favourites, and one of the last songs we wrote for the album. Don´t know what to say about it really, except it has a cool hand clap part during the final guitar solo. This album has alot of stuff some people probably thought they would never hear on a Iron Lamb album. Handclaps, acoustic guitars, piano, timpani drums and a country guest vocalist..

Center of the Universe – This one is another old one, originally recorded with old vocalist Grga and released on the split 12″ with Motorbreath a few years ago. Grga wrote most of the music and the lyrics. I´m not sure why we choose to record this one again for the album, personally I´m a bit tired of it.

Rip it Up – Another old one, originally recorded with Grga for a 7″ released a couple of years ago. The new version with Bragges vocals and piano is cool though, and I think it´s a great song, well worth recording again for the album. Uptempo with singalong chorus, what´s not to like? We´ve played it live for years already though, so I´m a bit tired of it.

Deadend Blues – I always liked these heavy bluesy kind of songs, and we did a first attempt of doing one when we did a „version“ (new music) of Hank William´s „Angel of Death“ for the b-side of the „Backstabbers“ 7″ in 2013. I think it´s a perfect song to end the album, and we also did a music video for this one. Maybe not the most expected choice for a music video, but we never made it easy on ourselves..

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

You changed your leadsinger and D Bargman took over from Grga Lindström. What led to the decision to count on D Bargman and how difficult was the change?

Iron Lamb:

Grga decided to quit in late 2012. We tried a few other vocalists, but it wasn´t until we tried Bragge that we really felt we had found the perfect vocalist. Bragge played together with Ekeroth in Tyrant a few years ago, so they already knew each other very well. The change wasn´t difficult at all, but he was a bit hesitant towards his ability to sing this type of music since he only did more extreme stuff before, but after we recorded the Backstabbers 7“ session, he knew it was all good. We couldn´t be more satisfied, and he melts in perfectly in our slightly mentally deranged band.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Can the fans expect so hear D. Bargman sing some of the old songs or is the focus straight on Fool´s Gold?

Iron Lamb:

Bragge did shows with us for almost two years now, so he has sung most of the old songs already, and we will continue to play some of them, but obviously focus will lie on the new album for the upcoming shows.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

What about performing live on stage? Can we expect you to see you in Germany?

Iron Lamb:

Well we haven´t played in germany since Party San Festival in 2012, so it´s about time, that´s for sure!! At the moment we only have a few shows in Sweden booked, but hopefully we will get down to germany to play this summer. Anyone interested in booking us, just shoot a mail to ironlamb@hotmail.com and we´ll work something out! Germany rules for hard rock music.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

What are your New Year´s resolutions for 2015? What goals are there to achieve with your band?

Iron Lamb:

To get this record out, and do our very best to promote it and play live as much as possible. We have already started to write material for the next album also, this time it shouldn´t take almost four years to get it out, but then again, you never know..

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Thank you for the interview and good luck for the future. Any final words to your fans in Germany?

Iron Lamb:

Thank you René, for the interview and for your support! Prost, see you on the road!
