Phil Soussan kündigt seine neue EP Cosmo Fighter Part One an, die am 13. November über BraveWords Records erscheint.
Cosmo Fighter ist kein gewöhnliches Album; es wird als Trilogie aus drei EPs (Teil 1, 2 und 3) veröffentlicht. Die erste Single samt Video zum Song Fading Out ist ab sofort verfügbar.
Fading Out besticht durch eine Sequencer-artige Basslinie, ein fesselndes Gitarrenriff und einen Taktwechsel im Refrain, der ebenso unerwartet wie rätselhaft ist – und vermittelt die Botschaft, dass jeder, der Unterdrückung wählt, eines Tages selbst „ausgeblendet“ („faded out“) wird.
Cosmo Fighter ist eine klangliche Achterbahnfahrt, die uns dazu zwingt, unsere Sicht auf die Welt zu überdenken. Das Album begegnet dem Hörer mit großem Respekt, wirft aber zugleich subtile, nachhallende Fragen auf, die noch lange präsent bleiben, nachdem die Musik verklungen ist. Mit dem letzten Titel befreit das Album den Geist vom Lärm der modernen Gesellschaft und schafft einen tiefgründigen, offenen Raum, der bereit ist, neu mit der wahren Harmonie des Lebens gefüllt zu werden.

Die vier Songs der EP – abgesehen von wenigen Gastbeiträgen – wurden vollständig von Phil geschrieben, eingespielt, produziert und abgemischt. Alles entstand aus einem unerwarteten Moment der Stille heraus. Während einer seltenen Auszeit abseits der Tourneen verspürte er einen starken kreativen Drang. Eine Inspiration rief ihn dazu auf, sich erneut mutig in die Labyrinthe der Kreativität zu wagen.
Das Mixing und Mastering führte Phil Soussan in den Blue Cat Studios, Las Vegas, durch. Alle Instrumente und der Gesang stammen von ihm, mit Ausnahme des Gitarrensolos bei Please Don’t Make Me Wait, das von Richie Kotzen beigesteuert wurde.
„I started pulling from a vast reservoir of embryonic ideas“, sagt er. „Looking around, I saw a world with no shortage of things about which to write. Pacing back and forth I had felt angry at the world, but I wasn’t mad at it. I certainly didn’t want to sound patronizing, but I had this urge to inspire people to wake up and realize that all truths rest in our own intelligence.“
Dieser Funke entfachte ein brillantes Konzept: einen Realitätscheck aus der Perspektive von jemandem, der gerade aus der Zukunft zurückgekehrt ist – dem Cosmo Fighter.
„I’m not talking Sci-Fi here! …maybe only two or three years into the future“, stellt Phil klar. „The Cosmo Fighter comes back into the present to recount what he has seen. Not that long ago, we were all so optimistic about what technology would bring to our lives. This character shows us that things will not always turn out as we imagine. It is entirely up to us to create our own destiny.“
„I put everything I could into these songs; pure thought at first can seem uncomfortable, like you are confronting hidden feelings and doubts, but as these ideas developed, they became purely honest. All of a sudden, song after song, I was not afraid to use the gravity of the subjects to influence the music. The album ranges from high energy, driving riffs to moments of heavy lucid calmness.“
