Kaeck - Stormkult

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Hello guys,

Today we meet to talk about your new Black Metal band, with which you have released your debut album Stormkult in the last month. How did the members of Kaeck come together and did you already gain some experience in other bands?

Kaeck / Oovenmeester:

I already knew Agitator for years and we have worked on another black metal project together called Noordelingen. Agitator introduced me to Chaos. We have only been together with the entire band once sofar.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Stormkult has a playing time of approx. half an hour and the six tracks leave enough space to get into your work. What influences inspired you, respectively which bands would you name as pattern for your sound?

Kaeck / Agitator:

A tight pattern for the sound sound isn’t really something we were looking for from the beginning. We mixed the different instrumental groups ourselves, like the drums/bass/keys then guitars and vocals. JB vd Wal mixed those 3 groups as you can hear on the album. We actually tried to mix the album again, but it lost his soul so we got back to the first mix. Although you can bitch about nearly everything on this album if you listen to the separate instruments. But all together it sound like a demon!

Kaeck / Oovenmeester:

Lugubrum remains a great inspiration for me. Also the English Frost and Argharus. I love those vocals.

Kaeck / Chaos:

Ive been at it with Sammath since 93.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Directly at the beginning of your career you have found with Folter Records a partner that has a lot of experience in this genre and also already has united a lot of interesting bands under its label. How did this collaboration happen, and what do you hope to achieve by it?

Kaeck / Agitator:

We’ve already achieved our goal. We made a solid, aggressive, dark black metal album. Also we combined our low B tuning instruments with keys together with Dutch lyrics. The fact Folter did release it, is also great, because of their proven skills within the genre. We aren’t looking for anything besides writing new material in the same way. But of course we are very satisfied Folter did pick it up and made something special of this release by releasing it as a huge digipack. We’ve known them for years because they released 2 full lengths of Lugubre: one of the bands I’m still active in. Lugubre is on hold, but you will never know when Striid is among the living once again.

Kaeck / Chaos:

Sammath was with Folter for 18 years before siging to Hammerheart in 2014. So ive known Joerg a bloody long time, glad he like Kaeck.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Even before the release Kaeck has been presented in different news, and this kind of promotion at this early stage does not happen to every band. So how satisfied are you after the release with the feedback of the press and also of the fans that newly discovered you?

Kaeck / Agitator:

We are very satisfied of course. This album we made pure to experiment and to try something new with different people. Oovenmeester did recorded his vocals even before Chaos and Oovenmeester met each other. It all was / is an experiment, just to explore new boundaries. Do I sound like Star Trek now, I guess I do, but you will get the point. For short, we did not expect anything, so all is just a big bonus!

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

You have release the complete album Stormkult via stream. Haven’t you been anxious that this would decrease the sales? Or don’t you care for commercial aspects?

Kaeck / Agitator:

We don’t care.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

To talk about Stormkult again: What can a potential fan expect from the six songs, and could you please let us know a little bit more in detail the story behind each song in some sort of track-by-track commentary?

Kaeck / Oovenmeester:

You can expect a voyage to the darkest places of the soul. Pure occult terror and mental disturbance.

1. De Kult: “Rhe Cult” is about the fictional cult surrounding the terrible god Kaeck. From which the band’s name was derived.

2. De heerser wederkeert: “The Ruler returns” tells the story of a persons’ journey from the darkest, most insane part of his mind. As if he was lost and is returning to glorious sanity in where he is lord and ruler of his own make belief kingdom.. A way in which some people escape a gruesome reality to a part of the mind that where they are in control.

3. Holenmuur: “Holewall” the protagonist of this song’s mind is torn apart by guilt on his former deeds. He is held captured by a colossal wall with countless holes. From each hole he is being stared at by eyes that see right through his soul and all his terrible deeds and failures.

4. Akolieten van de nacht: “Acolytes of the night” the servants of Kaeck hunting the night for fresh victims to bring to their master.

5. Afgod: “ Idol” Kaeck is a god that must be satisfied by sacrificing parts of the mind and soul. And what would satisfy him more than sacrificing yourself!

6. Wormvloed: “Wormflood” The world is infested by human worms; people who are not worth the air in their lungs or the light in their eyes. Why not get rid of people who are no contribution to earthly life and make room for those that do.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Also the cover strikes and can be described as an eye catcher. Did you do the artwork by yourself or was it done by an external artist?

Kaeck / Agitator:

I did the cover photo. Wouter Wagemans made the artwork how it turns out on the album. we indeed do like the atmosphere of it. It was in our head our just turned out exactly like it.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Nearly all bands have to present their abilities not only in the studio but also on stage. Did you already do some shows, and are there any plans for shows in the Netherlands and Germany?

Kaeck / Oovenmeester:

We have done no shows sofar but Kaeck will perform live at Under the black sun festival 2016.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

If you could name your personal line-up, which bands would you like to tour with through Europe? And which festivals are your favorite ones?

Kaeck / Chaos:

Mysticum, Sadisitik Exekution

Kaeck / Agitator: Most bands I like, aren’t playing live (anymore), like Nordvrede, Hadanfard, Lunar Aurora ( saw them once, it was great!). But some acts do play live like Isvind and Dodheimsgard.

Kaeck / Oovenmeester:

There are lots of bands I’d like to tour with. But let’s start with touring together with some Dutch black metal talent. Partysan open air is one of my favourite festivals.

Kaeck / Chaos:

I really didn’t expect the album to be picked up like it was. Its harsh as fuck.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Thank you very much for this interview, and all the best to you.
