Postcards From Arkham - Aeons

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Hello Postcards From Arkham,

Today we meet to talk about your second album Aeon5. First of all would you please introduce yourself to those, who don’t know you, and tell something about the history of Postcards From Arkham?

Postcards From Arkham:

Nice to meet you ☺ Well, let’s make it quick. PFA is a multidimensional postcard – ticket and also a periscope into the spheres of your inner universe, where you can find something you thought that was already lost and forgotten. But be careful friend, you might find something wonderful but also something horrible …

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Why did you choose the name Postcards From Arkham, and is there any special meaning behind it?

Postcards From Arkham:

It wasn’t chosen – someone says that it was an accident, but I think it was a destiny. Of course that it has a meaning – but what is it? We might find out in the near future, but maybe not …

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

You grab some elements of movie soundtracks and combine them with Metal respectively Post Rock. How did you come to this special kind of music?

Postcards From Arkham:

Every song is like a path. Some paths are narrow and short but the others are long and twisting, and you never know where they lead. When I am writing a song, I never know how it’s gonna end. I like many kinds of music, so I am trying to write variable songs with lots of atmosphere and motives. Right, you mentioned soundtracks – in the movies there are action scenes, romantic scenes, sad scenes and my music is a kind of movie …

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Between your debut album and Aeon5 some time has passed. How did you prepare yourself for the second album, and which experiences could you already include in the production process?

Postcards From Arkham:

Main difference is, that the first album was really unexpected, I just recorded some parts, put the parts into the song and after that, I realized that I recorded whole album. But Aeon5 process was completely different. I knew that I want to make an epic album from the beginning till the end. I think that I and my friends that helped me a lot made something that I could be proud of. This process was ment to make something special.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

To dig a little bit deeper into Aeon5: I really would like to know, how you start with the songs in the rehearsal room and in which way you continue to work in the studio to record the final version?

Postcards From Arkham:

Both albums – the first as well as the second weren’t ever rehearsed. I started to write the parts of the songs after the release of Oceanize album. Songs are like puzzles – made out of many parts.

We started to rehearse just few weeks before our first gig for the new album – it was the Brutal Assault 2015 show – it was the very first time we were playing the songs from the new album and I was very curious to know whether the songs would work on live gigs – and it was awesome!

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

We already have some information for the new album, but would you please be so kind to explain the songs from Aeon5 a bit more in a track-by-track commentary?

Postcards From Arkham:

With pleasure:

1. Imagination Filled Balloon is the first song on the album. It has the most dynamic structure, from fantasy and melodic beginning, across the rock parts to black metal end. This song was written at the beginning of the process and changed a lot.

2. Aeon Echoes. When I wrote the main melody of the Aeon Echoes song, I had already known that it would be a new single. Catchy melodies, quick tempo, dark atmosphere and strong lyrics. Check out the video for this song …

3. Thousand Years For Us is a combination of modern rock vibes with lyrics that are deeply inspired by time traveling questions, numbers, math … This song is probably gonna be the second single from this album.

4. Overthrown – Definitely the heaviest song from the album. Catchy melodies, two guitar solos and dark lyrics. No compromises.

5. Elevate – Feeling, that you want to fly away from this planet. That is all about it.

6. Pays des Merveilles – Very intimate song, music and lyrics with combination of Lenka’s voice created pure passion – no words can’t explain.

7. Woods of Liberation – Like avalanche, no choruses or repeated parts, just new structures – freedom is main theme of this song.

8. One World Is Not Enough – Epic ending and maybe a part of the new chapter of this band. Hypnotizing main riff and nearly black metal chorus.

Postcards From Arkham is a time-consuming project. How can you match family, music and work without neglecting one of these important parts of your lifes?

Postcards From Arkham:

It’s tough situation. But this project is part of my life just like my family, and it is very important to respect both sides. I couldn’t live without any of these both parts.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Also one question about live shows. Did you already do some concerts in your country and are any shows scheduled for the future, maybe even in Germany?

Postcards From Arkham:

Actually we have scheduled a tour here in Czech Republic this autumn as well as some single shows. But our music is not a kind of mainstream and we have a lot of fans abroad.

We would like to tour in Germany, Poland or Great Britain but it is up to the promoters to invite us. Live shows are very important to us, there is a different kind of atmosphere and you can directly communicate with listeners. That is awesome!

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Thank you very much once more for your time. I wish you all the best for the future. And now it’s your opportunity to speak frankly to your fans and the readers of Time for Metal.

Postcards From Arkham:

Thank you very much for your questions. And to all your readers – be open minded and creative! See you soon!
