Nach dem Erfolg der vorherigen Zusammenarbeit «Skuggsjá», stellen Ivar Bjornson (Enslaved) und Einar Selvik (Wardruna) nun ihr imposantes Folgewerk «Hugsjá» vor. Das Wort “Hugsjá” meint mit (oder inmitten) dem Verstand zu sehen – weiter spiegelt es die Idee wider man könne mit dem Verstand weiter sehen als mit dem bloßen Auge. Indem die beiden Musiker ursprüngliche und moderne Gedanken, Sounds und Instrumente miteinander kombinieren, laden sie den Zuhörer auf eine lebhafte Reise ein die weit zurückliegende Geschichte von Norwegen und seine damit verbundenen Traditionen zu erkunden. Das Album wird über das norwegische Label By Norse Music am 20. April 2018 veröffentlicht.
HUGSJÁ HIER ANHÖREN
«Hugsjá» wurde im Rahmen der Konzertserie Nordvegen (“der nordische Weg”) 2017 auf dem Bergen International Festival uraufgeführt. Diese Konzertreihe wurde von lokaler Geschichte und Traditionen der jeweiligen Aufführungsorte inspiriert. Die Nordvegen Konzerte kreierten eine intime Basis für das in toller Zusammenarbeit in Auftrag gegebene Stück «Hugsjá». Aus der Premiere in der Konzerthalle Grieghallen in Bergen entwickelte sich die Aufnahme eines ganzen Albums. Roadburn 2018 wird sowohl die Release Party, als auch das internationale Live-Debüt von «Hugsjá», dem Album.

The songs ‘Ni Mødre av Sol’ and ‘Um Heilage Fjell’ feature a mixed choir under management of Stine Kobbeltvedt with the voices of Anna Lisa Lekven, Laila Moberg, Marianne Evensen Østrem, Lisa Nøttseter, Lise Renee Aase, Kristine Bjånesøy Tikkanen, Linda Nytræ, Leif Østrem, Brede Lærum, Jan Helge Kordts, Jan-Ove Hansen, Richard Myhre Gåssand and Stine Kobbeltvedt.

Einar Selvik kommentiert: „Where our previous joint endeavor «Skuggsjá» had a very specific idea and format when it was commissioned, I feel we had much more room on «Hugsjá», to freely explore as well as to apply our experience into the creative process and planning. It has truly been an enriching process where we have been working alongside great musicians, language experts, archeologists and local experts; seeking to unfold and shed light on relevant, yet near forgotten deities and myths as well as local history and traditions.
Ivar Bjørnson kommentiert: We started out by fusing our respective bands into a mammoth of a piece; and marching said mammoth on and off stage afterwards was not the easiest of tasks either. So when we started working on round two, we moved the focus from what we were doing in our “day-bands”, and what we could do together as musical and thinking “individuals”. In that process I feel we have invented a whole new genre and a whole new approach to historically anchored art. The recording process was a lot of fun also; these songs really works on all scales; acoustically outdoors by the sea, mic´d up and amplified in a giant concert hall – and last but not least; as an album…“
