Das italienische Tech-Thrash/Death-Metal-Quartett Miscreance veröffentlicht heute das zweite Album Reminiscence über Season Of Mist.
Miscreance erklären: „After meandering through the sands of time, we are finally unearthing our new album Reminiscence. Each of the nine songs on the album take a look into a forgotten past. Together, they merge into a mind-altering experience. Reminiscence is a concept album that tells the story of a lost civilization, suspended in time. Gifted with psychic powers and driven by an insatiable hunger for prey, this civilization once lived in symbiosis with nature, only for their age of splendor to give way to inexorable decline.
While writing, we pushed ourselves toward a state of total neural unity, just as the lost tribe at the heart of our story once did. We became so deeply captivated by the concept that we decided to reinterpret the lost album as coherently and faithfully as possible, bringing its sound to life again through an array of tribal and unconventional instruments, unearthly time signatures and ritualistic chants.

Nach ihrem Aufstieg aus der italienischen Underground-Szene und der Vertragsunterzeichnung 2022 bei Season Of Mist, wurden Miscreance mit Bands wie Death, Sadus und Voivod verglichen – jenen unsterblichen Größen, die die alternative Zeitlinie der Extreme-Metal-Geschichte geprägt haben. Die rasanten Thrash-Riffs und extremen Tempowechsel der Band erinnern zwar an das goldene Zeitalter des Death Metal, doch ihr zweites Album Reminiscence erweist sich schnell als weit mehr als nur ein bloßer Rückgriff auf die Vergangenheit.

Reminiscence ist kein Versuch, die Glanzzeiten des Death Metal einfach nur wiederaufleben zu lassen. Der Opener Trait D’Union beginnt nicht mit Blastbeats, sondern mit funkigen, federnden Tribal-Percussion-Klängen, die an eine Zeit weit vor der Ära der Charvel-Gitarren erinnern. „We still play old-school tech-thrash“, sagt Gitarrist Andrea Granauro. Doch in einer Art kollektiver Halluzination wagen sich Miscreance in dunkle Gefilde vor, die das Genre bisher noch nicht betreten hat: Die Lead-Single Scalp Ceremony rast in blutrünstigem Tempo dahin, bevor sie mit einem Wirbel aus Bongos zum Headbangen einlädt.
Der Perkussionist Leo Di Angilla ist auf dem gesamten Album als Gastmusiker an Percussion, Didgeridoo, Flöte und Berimbau zu hören und bereichert so die Tribal-Instrumentierung der Platte. „Adding the tribal instruments to certain songs deepens the connection to the overall story that the album is telling“, erklärt Gitarrist Tommaso Cappelletti.
Obwohl die Aufnahmen in ihrer Heimat Italien stattfanden, entdeckten Miscreance das Konzept für Reminiscence beim Durchforsten der Sande der Zeit. Neben Tech-Thrash-Riffs und progressiven Tempowechseln offenbart die Band Didgeridoos, Berimbaus, telepathische Operationen, fremdartige Zungen und eine brennende Himmelsleiche. „What we’ve created is a ‚lost album‘“, sagt Bassist Jean-Claude Rossignol. „It comes from an unknown civilization that’s both futuristic and extremely primitive. Through psychic powers and capabilities that transcend earthly comprehension, these primordial extraterrestrials have achieved total neural unity. Yet innate wickedness still lures inside of them, harboring the need for preys, scalps and lust.“ Der Aufstieg auf The Moaning Hill ist nichts für schwache Nerven, doch die komplexen Windungen dieses perversen Pfades führen zu wahrhaft heiligen Genüssen.
