SYLOSIS haben letzte Woche mit „Mercy“ den ersten Song des kommenden Albums »Dormant Heart« veröffentlicht. Frontmann Josh Middleton hat dazu nun ein Guitar-Tutorial auf seinen YouTube-Channel hochgeladen.

Josh kommentiert wie folgt:
„Mercy is the first single off the new album. It’s got a pretty dark and heavy vibe to it but it’s one of the most melodic tracks on the album at the same time. It’s got a big slow, doomy outro with an octave pedal on the guitars so that’s going to rumble some guts live. For this video, we wanted to keep it dark and claustrophobic. It’s got some of the artwork from the album and inlay illustrated as well which came together really well.“
Außerdem hat die Band auch das Artwork zu »Dormant Heart« veröffentlicht. Erstellt wurde es von Künstler BONFIRE (OPETH, SATYRICON, KATAONIA), aus Bristol, der bereits einige T-Shirt-Motive für SYLOSIS designt hat. Josh sagt dazu: „The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will.“

Josh Middleton bezeichnete das Werk als das bisher stärkste Album der Band. „So angepisst, aggressiv und intensiv war noch keines unserer Alben und dennoch ist es episch, progressiv und melodisch. Ein sehr düsteres und atmosphärisches Werk. Wir haben als Band und als Individuen viel durchgemacht und nun unser bisher schwärzestes Album überhaupt gemacht.“ “Der Titel bezieht sich auf Menschen, die wie von einem Autopilot gesteuert durchs Leben gehen und Teil einer Herde sind. Es geht darum, dass die Leute das einfach als Teil einer ‚Tradition‘ akzeptieren, statt sich in der Welt umzusehen und für sich selbst zu denken. Manchmal gibt es Situationen, die unsere Perspektive oder Wahrnehmung verändern…“
Im März 2014 begann die Band heimlich neben ihren Shows am neuen Album zu arbeiten. Für dieses Album ist Josh Middleton einen großen Schritt gegangen, da er es zusammen mit Scott Atkins produziert hat.
Gemastert wurde das Album von TESSERACT Gitarrist Acle Kahney.
»Dormant Heart« soll am 16. Januar 2015 via Nuclear Blast veröffentlicht werden.
