Dread Sovereign - All Hell´s Martys

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Hi Alan,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us something about your new project Dread Sovereign. The most of us know you from Primordial and Twilight Of The Gods. Why did you found Dread Sovereign beside your numerous guest appearances?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

These are my songs more or less, i wrote the music and the lyrics, the aesthetic etc. is mine. so this differs to the other bands you mention and things i’ve done in the past. the answer is very simple, life is short so we have to do what we can to be as creative as possible and if i have the energy and the willpower to make this happen then i will.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

What can a Primordial fan expect from Dread Sovereign? Is he going to hear familiar sounds or are the bands poles apart?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

Well it is me and my voice but they are pretty different. dread sovereign is more old school doom/heavy metal but downtuned, dirty and filthy. grinding bass and squealing guitars. more inspired by cirith ungol and venom then anything else. of course i still have this sense of harmony and melody that run through everything but it’s a quite different beast.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Your remarkable EP Pray To The Devil In Man was followed by your even more enormous album All Hell´s Martys. It is really emotional, where a good atmosphere is turned into a theatrical masterpiece. How important is this emotional aspect to you and what is the message you want to send with All Hell´s Martys?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

I always say the same thing and i know it sounds stupid by now, even mantra-like but just mean what you say and say what you mean, if you are conencted to what you are doing creatively emotionally then this is how things should work. i don’t make music for the sake of making music, i make it because i have to, and this is the bottom line and all else is kinda a moot point. 100% or nothing….for better or for worse.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Ván Records is a really popular label in the underground in-crowd. Why did you choose to be part of the Ván family?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

Maybe they are i really don’t care for me they stand for quality music made with love and dedication for for me it makes total sense. when you hold the dread sovereign vinyl in your hands and play it…..this is a special feeling! this is all the answer you need!

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Your first gig in Germany on February 28th took place during the Hell Over Hamburg Festival Warm Up Night. How did it feel to step out, in front of your fans, and play some new songs? And I would love to know why this first gig took place in Germany. Do you have a deeper connection to Germany or did it happen by accident?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

This was a great gig, both Death Alley and Stallion were great companions for the night and it was really simple to be honest, we were asked by wolf to come over and i think it’s great that small hoenst festivals like these are growing and that people ar emoving away from the cattle market festivals and trying to support people working from the ground up who give a fuck about metal….! Hopefully we will be back over again soon!

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Some of your German fans are afraid that your gig in Hamburg was one of the very rare gigs in Germany. Are you planning some more festivals in Germany this summer, or can we maybe hope for a tour?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

The festival season is kinda upon us now and the album came out kinda late but we have a tour planned with procession for later in the year with hopefully some shows in germany in there! we will do what we can and hope to bring some chaos to some small sweaty venues near you soon.

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

And last but not least: will you keep working with Dread Sovereign, now that All Hell´s Martys was such a big success? Do you want to establish Dread Sovereign further to a solid band?

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

I will keep on keeping on like i always did. Nothing else i can really say…..

Time For Metal / Rene W.:

Thank you for your open words! At the end of our I would like to invite you to direct your words to our readers and your fans.

Dread Sovereign / Alan:

You are all doomed!!!
