Als Teil einer ausführlichen 20-seitigen AC/DC-Coverstory, die die The Razors Edge-Periode der Bandgeschichte analysiert, erzählte Slade dem Autor Andrew Daly von den geheimnisvollen inneren Abläufen der Band.
„They’d just look at each other and off we’d go. It was like Angus and Mal could read each other’s minds. I’ve never seen anything like it.“
“What I found out was that there are a lot of things left unspoken in AC/DC,” explained the drummer. “Most of what’s ‘said’ between Angus and Mal isn’t said. They didn’t need to talk.” Slade war neu in der Band, bevor er 1990 The Razors Edge aufnahm, und er stellte fest, dass auch bei seinem Vorsingen Dinge unausgesprochen blieben. “Malcolm and Angus set up chairs, watched me playing the whole time, and said nothing. Afterwards they asked me if I wanted anything. I asked for a cheese sandwich and a coffee – and that was it. I was in AC/DC.”
Der Waliser spielte auf dem Album The Razors Edge mit und hatte zwei verschiedene Auftritte bei AC/DC. Zuvor hatte er in Manfred Mann’s Earth Band und The Firm mit Jimmy Page gespielt. Aber wusste er, dass The Razors Edge ein so großes Album werden würde?
“I didn’t spot it… Sometimes you can spot it, other times you can’t. I felt very much like that when we did Blinded By The Light with Manfred Mann. But it wasn’t that way with The Razors Edge at all. I had no idea that Thunderstruck was going to be AC/DC’s biggest song ever, and I had no idea that we’d made a special album.”
