Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Hi guys, thanks for taking your time doing this interview. Could you please first of all tell a little bit about the history of Dynazty? There may be some readers of Time for Metal, that still don’t know you

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Hello! Dynazty formed in Stockholm in 2008, during the years we’ve recorded and released 5 albums so far. Lots of tours have been done and we’re loving every minute of our career. You can find a more detailed biography at www.dynazty.com if you want further knowledge about the history of the band and the members!

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

How does it feel after all the hard work before the release of the album to finally present it to the audience?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

It’s a good feeling. A bit of hopes and worries but mostly just very fun to be able to show the world what we have created.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

And what do you love most: The song writing and all preparations before going to the studio, the work in the studio or the time after the release with all the promotion stuff and the shows? Or are all these steps equal to each other, because one couldn’t happen without the others?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

It’s very hard to say… I like all of those steps, but I guess I prefer the time after the album is finished. You get a chance to breathe and a feeling of accomplishment, whether you are 100% satisfied or not, because you’ve finished something and you can go on with your life 🙂

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Was it a smooth process in writing the songs and going to the studio? And how are all the small steps in the preparation of an album allocated on the band members? Do all of them work together already in the song writing, or do some band members have specific tasks?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Everybody is welcome to write, so it’s more up to who’s having the most inspiration and, I guess skill, that determines who writes the songs. On this album Love, Mike, Nils and Jonathan did the writing, I only helped with arrangement on one song, and of course modified the drum tracks. The writing process is kind of separated; Love works in his home studio, Mike in his and so on… But we always talk through everything together and try to make the best songs possible as a team.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Can you please explain to me the meaning of the album cover? I already didn’t understand the cover of Renatus, but I didn’t have the opportunity to ask you way back then 😉 Was it an external artist, who created the cover, and was he free in his expression or did he get some hints from you? Or did you do the cover by yourself?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

It’s made by an artist named Vira Haglund, we sent him some texts about what the album was about, and he created this piece of art based on that. I will not try to explain it, the answer to what it means is in the songs.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

To me it sounds like the songs are not that easy to play and are demanding a certain level of technical skills. Dynazty is now in the music business since approximately eight years and you all have quite a lot of experience, but I still wonder, if you had some musical education, or are you self-educated?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

They are very difficult to play indeed. All of us went to music high schools and I guess we got some kind of foundation there. I also went to music college, with focus on classical percussion. But as far as the rock and metal education, I think I learnt most from listening to all the great players and figure out what they did, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the band feels the same way.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Question for reviews: Do you try to read them all, or at least the ones of the most important magazines? Or are you only looking at the final rating? And if you read them, are you sometimes surprised how your music is considered and which comparisons with other bands sometimes are made?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

I read everyone I see! Even the bad ones… They make me angry for a minute but then I can laugh it off. Well the comparisons feel strange sometimes, yes, but I’m not surprised really. Everybody likes to label bands and compare them to whomever. Since we changed our sound a lot in 2014 I understand that some people can be confused!

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

On your Facebook page I found the announcement for some shows in Belgium and the Netherlands. Do you try to arrange also some headliner shows in other countries to promote Titanic Mass?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Yes, we are booking right now.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Until now you mainly did some shows in Scandinavian countries, but you also have been to the United States, Russia or China. Are there any differences between the visitors of the shows, or are they in the end all just metalheads? I could imagine that it is already quite exciting to travel to a country like China with such a different mentality…

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

We’ve been through Europe a couple of times too. China was the most different I’d say, it felt like they really needed some metal in their life. Great audiences! They were really wild and didn’t have the same limits as we usually have, we had a lot of fun there.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

What is more exciting for you: Doing a tour with headliner shows or supporting another band or having one show during a festival? It is natural that during a festival not every visitor came to see you, which is different in comparison to an own tour. Did you already have to make some bad experience in that connection?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Hard to say! It all depends on the specific show, all of those can be great experiences, and all of them can be pretty bad. Sometimes when you’re support act you don’t get enough time for soundcheck or stage time etc. But on the other hand you get to reach out to a new audience. I’d say I prefer headline shows! And festivals 🙂

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Another question for tours: What do you do in your leisure time? Do you do some sightseeing to see something else of the towns than just the concert halls, or do you just relax to stay in shape for the shows?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Depends on the tour schedule. We usually try to do some tourist things if we have time, and also see a little of the city life, maybe a restaurant or a bar, just to get the feeling of what that town has to offer. Being in the tour bus and venues every day can get a little tedious… We try to get out and do some fun stuff, whatever it may be.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

Is there any other incident in the history of Dynazty, may it be positive or negative, you will never forget?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Many, I can share one. When we were in China for the first time, on the first show. The crowd was crazy, really wild, and our bass player tried to high-five someone in the front row. It took one second and he was gone, the audience just ripped him down from the stage immediately! We laughed a lot, but had to wait a while for him to manage to get back on stage before we could continue the show.

Time For Metal / Heike L.:

And that’s it for now. I thank you very much for your frank answers and hope to see you on stage one day. Is there anything else you would like to tell to your fans and the readers of Time for Metal?

Dynazty / George Härnsten Egg:

Thank you for the questions! Check out our new album Titanic Mass and stay tuned on our website and Facebook page for information on upcoming shows and other news!
